Authorities allege that Victor Romero, a 62-year-old retired NYPD detective, fired a single shot through the rear passenger window of a vehicle driven by 46-year-old Koran Irvine, a Con Edison employee, following a near-collision. Irvine was pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital. Initially, Romero was arraigned on a charge of first-degree manslaughter and released on $1 million bond. This initial charge drew significant criticism from the victim’s family, union representatives, and colleagues. However, following an indictment by a Manhattan grand jury, the charges were upgraded to second-degree murder. Prosecutors cited surveillance footage showing Romero’s SUV driving alongside Irvine’s vehicle while shots were fired, causing Irvine to crash. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with Romero remaining out on $1 million bail. A court appearance is scheduled for November 23. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-28: Victor Romero indicted for murder in George Washington Bridge shooting Retired NYPD detective Victor Romero has been indicted for second-degree murder following a fatal road-rage shooting of Con Edison employee Koran Irvine on the George Washington Bridge. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ex-nypd-detective-charged-with-murder-in-george-washington-bridge-shooting ### 2026-10-21: Retired NYPD detective arrested in fatal George Washington Bridge shooting Retired NYPD detective Victor Romero faces manslaughter charges after allegedly fatally shooting Con Edison worker Koran Irvine during a road-rage incident on the George Washington Bridge. 25 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/driver-killed-in-shooting-on-george-washington-bridge --- Cite as: George Washington Bridge fatal shooting investigation.
