Political tensions in Georgia escalated following the arrest of journalist Dito Chubinidze on charges of treason and sabotage. The arrest followed an interview concerning the Davit Gareja territory, specifically regarding allegations that the government transferred parts of the area to Azerbaijan.

Lasha Nadareishvili, editor-in-chief of ‘Asaval-Dasaval’, condemned the arrest as “political retaliation,” arguing that questioning the management of Christian sites should not be criminalized.

In response to the incident, political figure Irma Inashvili criticized Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, suggesting the arrest serves as a signal that anyone discussing the Davit Gareja issue will be targeted. Conversely, Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili defended the judiciary, asserting that the justice system has been vindicated in high-profile cases.
