Geothermal energy development in Turkey is being promoted for its potential to drive regional economic growth through electricity generation, thermal tourism, and agriculture.

In Bitlis, Governor Ahmet Karakaya inspected geothermal research and energy transmission upgrades in the Güroymak district, noting that the area’s potential could support greenhouse agriculture and job creation. 

In Balıkesir, drilling for the Gönen Geothermal Heated Greenhouse Organized Industrial Zone has identified two new geothermal resources with temperatures of approximately 60 degrees Celsius. This large-scale project aims to utilize geothermal heat for year-round greenhouse production across 8 million square meters, with projections to create 10,000 direct jobs and contribute 20 billion TL to the national economy.
