German basketball players are gaining prominence in the NBA. Franz Wagner, playing for the Orlando Magic, has received praise for his versatility and potential for peak performance. Additionally, 20-year-old Hannes Steinbach has joined the Charlotte Hornets, drawing comparisons to German legend Dirk Nowitzki.

Wagner recently sustained a right shoulder injury during a preseason game against the Miami Heat, forcing him to leave the court after 19 minutes of play. Orlando Magic head coach Sean Sweeney indicated that medical examinations would be conducted to determine the severity of the injury ahead of the season start. During that same preseason matchup, German national player Tristan da Silva contributed 12 points and four rebounds, while Franz Wagner noted the personal change of playing without his brother, Moritz Wagner, who moved to the Brooklyn Nets this summer.

As the NBA season progresses, German players have experienced fluctuating results. Dennis Schröder saw significant volatility, including a heavy loss with the Charlotte Hornets against the Atlanta Hawks, followed by a standout performance of 25 points, six rebounds, and four assists in a victory over the Miami Heat. Franz Wagner contributed 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists in a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, while Moritz Wagner and the Brooklyn Nets fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers. A bright spot for German basketball was Hannes Steinbach, who recorded six points and five rebounds in twelve minutes during his NBA debut.
