Producers in Germany are forecasting price increases for the upcoming Christmas tree season. The Nordmann fir, the country’s most popular variety, is expected to cost between 25 and 33 euros per meter, compared to the previous year’s range of 23 to 30 euros. Other varieties, including blue spruce and Norway spruce, are also seeing price adjustments.

Industry experts and the Verband natürlicher Weihnachtsbaum attribute these rising costs to increased expenses in production, personnel, and logistics, alongside a declining market supply.

The supply shortage is partially linked to extreme summer droughts in Germany, particularly in the south, which caused significant damage to new plantings. While mature trees ready for harvest were only sporadically affected, the long-term availability of natural Christmas trees is expected to decrease as producers reduce cultivation areas or exit the industry.
