A Siegburg District Court has ordered an auction to resolve a custody dispute between an ex-couple regarding their shared dog. The ruling follows the failure of an informal mutual care agreement. 

Because the dog’s breeder prohibited selling the animal to a third party, the court mandated that the ownership be dissolved through an auction held directly between the two former partners. The court noted that it cannot arbitrarily award a pet to one party, requiring either division or sale to settle the matter.
