Protestant and Catholic churches in Germany are implementing various ecumenical projects to increase community engagement and modernize religious traditions.

In Schwerte, pastoral teams collaborated on the ‘Bürger für Bürger’ Christmas market project, which featured a ‘living nativity scene’ and a blessing station to make the Christian message more tangible. Additionally, church participation in the Landesgartenschau in Bad Nenndorf concluded after hosting numerous services, weddings, and baptisms through a dedicated community engagement tent.

Further efforts to modernize the perception of religious ceremonies include joint presence at the ‘Your Wedding Party’ trade fair in Fulda, where representatives advised couples on adapting traditional blessings to contemporary lifestyles. This follows the ‘einfach heiraten’ (simply marry) initiative, which facilitated spontaneous ceremonies and blessings in locations such as the Regensburg deanery to offer flexible alternatives to secular ceremonies.
