Nationwide, the ‘Every plug counts! Germany collects e-waste!’ campaign, supported by the Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte-Register, encourages the proper disposal of unrepairable devices to recover materials like silver, copper, and rare earths while managing hazardous substances. In Bielefeld, the local environmental service is piloting a mobile collection service that allows citizens to drop off various electrical appliances free of charge at multiple locations. At the municipal level, Hanau is focusing on the circular economy by encouraging residents to utilize local resources like the Repair Café Hanau before recycling. Meanwhile, Viersen is participating in a mobile phone collection campaign organized by the Pontifical Mission Societies. This specific effort ensures devices are processed within Germany to prevent export, with proceeds supporting humanitarian projects related to child protection and combating modern slavery. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-12: Germany promotes electronic waste recycling in Hanau and Viersen German cities Hanau and Viersen are promoting electronic waste recycling to recover valuable raw materials and support humanitarian projects through mobile phone collection campaigns. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/germany-promotes-electronic-waste-recycling-in-hanau-and-viersen ### 2026-10-05: Germany launches e-waste recycling campaigns and mobile collection pilots Germany is hosting nationwide e-waste collection campaigns, including a pilot mobile collection program in Bielefeld to improve the recycling of valuable raw materials and hazardous substances. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/germany-launches-e-waste-recycling-campaigns-and-mobile-collection-pilots --- Cite as: German electronic waste recycling initiatives.
