An analysis by E-Bridge, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, identified that grid capacity limitations are highly concentrated. The study found that while only about 5 to 6 percent of substations related to wind and photovoltaic systems are affected by planned redispatch reservations, these specific hotspots account for approximately 72 percent of the total redispatch requirement.

Subsequent analysis by the Bundesverband Neue Energiewirtschaft (bne) raised concerns regarding the economic implications of these regulations. The bne suggests that the redispatch reservation could create unintended incentives by shifting the financial burden of grid congestion onto renewable energy producers, who may have to waive compensation for up to six years.

Industry experts warn that this shift could artificially improve the regulatory efficiency ratings of grid operators by lowering their recorded costs, while simultaneously introducing significant investment risks for new renewable energy projects.

## Timeline

### 2026-09-29: E.ON and grid operators could benefit from Germany's redispatch reservation

A bne analysis warns that Germany's planned redispatch reservation could benefit grid operators like E.ON by shifting congestion costs to renewable producers, potentially undermining grid expansion incentives.

### 2026-09-11: E-Bridge analysis reveals concentrated grid bottlenecks in Germany

An E-Bridge analysis shows that Germany's planned redispatch reservation will target specific grid hotspots, affecting roughly 5-6% of renewable-relevant substations but covering 72% of redispatch needs.
