The 2026/27 season of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) marks the league’s 33rd playing year and features 14 teams. Following updates from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the league has implemented several rule changes, most notably a leadership adjustment that allows teams to forgo a single captain in favor of appointing three assistant captains.

In recent league action, EHC Red Bull München extended its derby winning streak to eight games with a 4-2 victory over the Augsburger Panther. Later, Patrick Hager led München to a 4-2 win against Krefeld, recording a hat trick and an assist. Eisbären Berlin previously defeated the league leaders, Nürnberg Ice Tigers, with a 4-1 win featuring a hat trick from Ty Ronning. However, the Ice Tigers have since moved into second place in the standings following a 4-2 victory over Iserlohn, a game marked by a 30 percent powerplay success rate.

Other notable performances include the Fischtown Pinguins defeating ERC Ingolstadt 6-2, which ended Ingolstadt’s four-game winning streak. During that match, Daniel Pietta scored twice, placing him within eight points of Patrick Reimers’ all-time scoring record of 859 points.

Offensively, the Kölner team has maintained high output, leading the league with 26 goals through six games. Meanwhile, the Augsburger Panther continue to compete under head coach Bill Peters with a reinforced roster including Sean Malone, Luke Toporowski, and Tobias Ancicka.
