Developments: 2. The German energy technology sector is focusing on advancing and optimizing the smart meter rollout. At the Metering Days event in Fulda, companies such as KISTERS and EMH metering GmbH presented new hardware and software solutions. KISTERS introduced the BelVis+ product family for meter data management and remote reading, while EMH metering GmbH showcased the CASA 2.0 Smart Meter Gateway, which utilizes a multi-core processor architecture designed for high data demands and automated manufacturing. Following these technological showcases, industry players including Solandeo and Hausheld submitted a position paper proposing a ‘Smart Meter Light’ approach. This proposal advocates for using existing 1:n technology within current Smart Meter Gateways to allow multiple customers to share a single gateway. Proponents argue this method would avoid the need to ‘reinvent the wheel’ and could make the rollout faster and more economical by leveraging infrastructure already certified by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: German industry proposes Smart Meter Light using existing technology Industry players Solandeo and Hausheld propose using existing Smart Meter Gateway technology to implement 'Smart Meter Light' more quickly and cost-effectively in Germany. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/german-industry-proposes-smart-meter-light-using-existing-technology ### 2026-10-19: Energy tech firms showcase smart meter solutions at metering days At the metering days in Fulda, KISTERS and EMH metering GmbH unveiled new web-based software and advanced smart meter gateway hardware to support the ongoing smart meter rollout. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/energy-tech-firms-showcase-smart-meter-solutions-at-metering-days --- Cite as: German smart meter rollout developments.
