Police in several German states are investigating multiple separate incidents of illegal waste dumping and are appealing to the public for information.

In mid-July 2026, authorities in Bavaria announced two cases: approximately 200–300 kg of glass-wool insulation were found dumped on a parking area and in the Veldensteiner Forest near Pegnitz, while a municipal plot in Amberg’s industrial Nord district contained illegally discarded plant stones and dried shrubs. Both incidents are being treated as environmental crimes.

Around the same time, police in Thuringia publicized a larger case involving hazardous building-material debris dumped along a 1,600-meter stretch of field road near Ringleben and Esperstedt. Laboratory analysis confirmed the material contained substances hazardous to health, necessitating costly soil remediation. Investigators are seeking tips regarding vehicles, machinery, or persons linked to the dumping.

By August 2026, additional incidents were reported in other regions. In the Hämbacher Berg area, two cases involved the abandonment of three car tires and a pile of construction debris near the Rhönkanal. In Heiden, perpetrators dumped broken oil tanks at the edge of a field on Düwelsteenweg; emergency responders identified traces of old oil on the fragments. The Borken Criminal Investigation Department has initiated a criminal investigation into the Heiden incident and is seeking witnesses who may have observed suspicious persons or vehicles.
