These units were tested at six sites across Europe and South Africa, offering plug‑in solutions for individual buildings, neighbourhoods or entire districts. In Bavaria’s Cham district, the DeTriC model project introduced a digital assessment tool and colour‑coded rating system for privately owned drinking‑water supplies, identifying hygiene and technical warnings in a quarter of the surveyed wells. The district health office plans to integrate these tools into routine monitoring, further strengthening water safety.

Together, the projects illustrate Germany’s push toward smarter, less disruptive water‑infrastructure maintenance and decentralized, nature‑based water‑treatment solutions.
