Price initially dominated the match, recording both a 12-darter and a 10-darter to secure the first set with an average exceeding 132. Price’s first-set average of 132.62 was noted as the highest in the tournament's history. However, Humphries, referred to as ‘Cool Hand Luke’, staged a significant comeback. After falling behind 3-0, Humphries won six of the next seven sets to lead the match. Although Price managed to level the score at 4-4, Humphries secured the championship by winning the deciding set. This victory marks Humphries’ second World Grand Prix trophy and his ninth major title, earning him £150,000. The win also returns him to second place in the PDC Order of Merit and makes him the first player in tournament history to reach four consecutive World Grand Prix finals. Following the match, Humphries indicated he would seek medical advice regarding a skin irritation on his forehead. In the wake of the loss, speculation has emerged regarding Gerwyn Price’s career longevity. This defeat marks Price’s third loss in a major PDC final this season, following previous losses to Ross Smith and Luke Littler. While Price has suggested he is content with his current status and could transition to farming, analyst Wayne Mardle disputes the idea that Price is ready to retire, noting that the player’s competitive intensity demonstrates a ‘deep hunger for major titles’ and a desire to make changes to his game. ## Claims - Gerwyn Price stated that Nathan Aspinall complained about the crowd despite the audience supporting him.
