The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union has engaged in multiple periods of industrial action regarding infrastructure and safety concerns.

In mid-August, drivers ended a three-day strike at the Kumasi depot following an agreement with the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST). The dispute centered on hazardous parking yard conditions, fuel shortages, and faulty loading equipment. Under the agreement, BOST committed to immediate repairs, including resurfacing a car park and fixing a loading arm, while the National Petroleum Authority was to investigate meter accuracy.

By early September, the Union suspended a subsequent two-day strike following interventions by industry chambers. However, drivers issued a one-month ultimatum to the government, demanding measurable progress on rehabilitating deteriorating roads near key petroleum depots, specifically in Tema, Takoradi, and Buipe. The Union warned that failure to address these safety and health risks would lead to a resumption of industrial action.
