The Ghanaian government announced a suspension of new recruitment for various security services for the year 2027. Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak stated that the decision, following instructions from President John Dramani Mahama, is intended to address a backlog of qualified applicants. The government plans to select individuals from the existing pool of qualified candidates who were previously unable to proceed to training due to capacity constraints.

Separately, the National Service Authority (NSA) is preparing to launch an inaugural four week Basic Military Training programme in December 2026. Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh noted that over 3,000 former National Service Personnel have applied for 2,000 available spots. The programme is designed to provide military orientation, discipline, and physical conditioning. The government is also evaluating the possibility of making this training a mandatory part of the national service experience in the future.
