Ghanaian officials are advocating for increased collaboration between academic institutions and the private sector to drive economic and industrial growth.

At the China–Africa Sub-Forum, Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Apaak promoted Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a tool for youth empowerment and industrial expansion. He highlighted the importance of industry participation in developing market-ready skills and noted the success of Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) in securing placements for learners. Additionally, he welcomed private sector scholarship initiatives to support student fees.

Furthering this theme, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare called for stronger ties between research laboratories and manufacturing factories. Speaking at a Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) event, she emphasized that such partnerships are vital for increasing local production and ensuring scientific innovation translates into practical industrial solutions. She specifically urged KNUST alumni to contribute expertise, capital, and professional resources to support national industrial growth, stating, ‘Our laboratories and our factories must work as partners if Ghana is to make what it consumes and sell what it makes.’

To address youth unemployment and the evolving demands of the modern job market, the Ghana-US International Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Partnership Programme has been established. This initiative aims to provide young Ghanaians with industry-relevant skills. Tsonam Akpeloo, Chair of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), noted that a highly skilled workforce is essential to support industrialization goals, including the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
