In Ghana, Members of Parliament are providing material and financial assistance to students entering senior high school to mitigate the costs of education.

In Atiwa East, MP Abena Osei-Asare distributed trunks, mattresses, provisions, and cash to 200 students. During the event, she addressed challenges within the national Free Senior High School programme, specifically calling for better management of the school placement system.

In Jomoro, MP and Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey launched her sixth annual scholarship initiative, targeting over 1,000 students from 111 public and private schools. This support included educational supplies, mosquito nets, and sanitary pads for female candidates to ensure financial constraints do not hinder academic pursuits. Affo-Toffey described education as the ‘backbone of personal and national development’ and pledged to sustain the program. Following the initial launch, Affo-Toffey conducted a supplementary distribution of supplies, including mattresses, trunks, chop boxes, exercise books, and sanitary pads, to over 300 additional students, bringing the total number of beneficiaries under this initiative to more than 1,300.

In the Yendi Constituency, MP Alhassan Abdul Fatawu presented mattresses and chop boxes to 150 Senior High School (SHS) 1 students to alleviate financial pressure on families during the transition to secondary education. Fatawu’s regional efforts also include previous scholarship programs and the distribution of mathematics sets to BECE candidates.
