Initial reports indicated that approximately 105 individuals were hospitalized with symptoms such as abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. Local authorities temporarily suspended the shop’s operations and collected food samples, including pâté, cold cuts, and sauces, for testing.

By August 28, the Gia Lai Department of Health reported that the number of affected individuals had risen to 248. While 56 people had been discharged, others remained under monitoring at the An Khe Medical Center. Most patients were reported to be in stable condition.

On September 7, health authorities confirmed that Salmonella spp bacteria caused the incident, which affected a total of 254 people. The victims had consumed assorted banh mi from the Bin Bin business household between August 23 and 24. Testing of 11 food samples revealed the presence of Salmonella spp in three specific ingredients: pâté, dried chicken, and fried fish cake. Clinical testing of a patient sample also confirmed the presence of the bacteria. The Gia Lai Department of Health and the Tay Nguyen Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology coordinated the investigation to identify the bacterial source.
