Speculation regarding Italian cyclist Giulio Ciccone’s future with Lidl-Trek has concluded with a mutual agreement to terminate their partnership at the end of the 2026 season. This decision ends an eight-season tenure for the climber, despite a contract that originally ran through 2029. His departure follows a period of success, including winning the 2023 Tour de France mountains classification and the 2025 Clásica San Sebastián. Reports suggest the split may have been influenced by management changes and tactical disagreements during the 2026 Giro d’Italia.

Ciccone has officially signed a three-year deal with the Pinarello-Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team, beginning in 2027. He will join teammate Tom Pidcock at the Swiss-based squad. Pinarello-Q36.5 manager Doug Ryder praised Ciccone’s “character and racing instinct,” describing the signing as a significant step for the team. Ciccone noted his desire for a “new challenge” and a connection to the team’s “human-centric environment.”

Ciccone arrives at his new team with a strong recent record, including a third-place finish at Il Lombardia and podium finishes at the European Championships and GP de Québec. His exit from Lidl-Trek is expected to create roster space for the German squad, which has been reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Italian specialist Filippo Ganna.
