In Pakistan, there is a push to accelerate the maritime sector by establishing a ‘one-door facilitation centre’ in Karachi. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has emphasized the need to consolidate port-related government services to reduce administrative delays and lower business costs. The initiative aims to streamline approvals, registrations, and clearances for businesses operating near major ports such as Karachi, Port Qasim, and Gwadar. In Nigeria, specifically within Rivers State, discussions are shifting toward coordinated action to manage rivers, creeks, and coastal assets. The focus is on integrating fisheries, aquaculture, marine transportation, and tourism through a ‘Blue-Green Continuum Framework’. This approach emphasizes the connection between land and water management to ensure that industrial and community development does not negatively impact water quality or ecosystems. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-04: Blue economy initiatives gain focus in Pakistan and Nigeria Pakistan and Nigeria are pursuing blue economy initiatives to boost economic growth through maritime services, streamlined port administration, and integrated water and land management. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/blue-economy-initiatives-gain-focus-in-pakistan-and-nigeria ### 2026-09-09: Kenya's blue economy transforms coastal livelihoods Kenya's blue economy initiatives are transforming coastal livelihoods by diversifying income through tourism, seaweed farming, and improved port infrastructure in areas like Shimoni. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kenyas-blue-economy-transforms-coastal-livelihoods --- Cite as: Global blue economy development initiatives.
