# Global forest conservation and restoration efforts > Live situation record from CLSTR: https://clstr.news/situations/global-forest-conservation-and-restoration-efforts > Updated: 2026-09-26T23:04:45.000Z. Sources: 9. Developments: 2. Environmental initiatives and research have focused on forest conservation and biodiversity protection in Mozambique and Brazil. In Mozambique, academic partnerships have facilitated training programs for the ecological restoration of mangroves and miombo forests to combat climate change. In Brazil, data indicated a 17% decrease in Amazon deforestation during the first quarter of 2026, prompting calls to institutionalize monitoring to protect these gains. Subsequent research highlighted that protecting existing forests is more effective for carbon sequestration and biodiversity than reforestation alone, particularly as climate change increases fire risks. To address these threats, conservation efforts are increasingly integrating indigenous knowledge and territorial defense through programs like the Forest Guardians, which aim to protect primary jungle through sustainable development and legal defense. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: Amazon conservation efforts focus on fire prevention and indigenous knowledge Research shows preventing Amazon forest fires is more effective for biodiversity than reforestation, while initiatives like Treesistance integrate indigenous knowledge to protect millions of hectares. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/amazon-conservation-efforts-focus-on-fire-prevention-and-indigenous-knowledge ### 2026-09-08: Environmental efforts focus on forest restoration and deforestation reduction Environmental initiatives focus on ecosystem restoration in Mozambique and a significant 17% reduction in Amazon deforestation in Brazil, highlighting efforts to combat climate change. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/environmental-efforts-focus-on-forest-restoration-and-deforestation-reduction --- Cite as: Global forest conservation and restoration efforts.
