The 2026 Global Media and Information Literacy Week, held from October 24 to 31, focuses on the theme “We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People.” The initiative seeks to mobilize stakeholders—including educators, journalists, and policymakers—to foster healthier information environments and strengthen democratic public spaces.

In Croatia, the University of Zadar hosted events as part of the week. During academic lectures, Professor Krešimir Krolo discussed a shift from critical thinking toward media cynicism, noting that many citizens are increasingly viewing all media outlets as equally untrustworthy. He distinguished this cynicism from healthy skepticism, which relies on seeking evidence.

Additionally, the academic year at the University of Zadar was marked by religious services, where Archbishop Milan Zgrablić emphasized the ethical responsibilities of education and the importance of connecting knowledge with human dignity.
