Major paint brands and color authorities have begun announcing color trends and selections for the 2026 and 2027 periods.

Sherwin-Williams previously named ‘Universal Khaki’ as its 2026 Color of the Year. Looking toward 2027, Valspar selected ‘Cottage Door’, a mid-tone blue characterized as a ‘colorful neutral’. 

Dulux is preparing to unveil its 2027 Colour of the Year and design forecast via a webinar on September 8. Senior Designer Dawn Scott will present the hero color and its influences, supported by three palettes: ‘Play’, focusing on spontaneity; ‘Treasure’, which is richer and more layered; and ‘Sensory’, which emphasizes natural materials and everyday rituals. Research suggests these trends are driven by a global desire for connection, highlighting a tension between the need for ‘calm refuges’ and ‘expressive, personal spaces’.

In a broader industry shift, Pantone has introduced 224 new colors to its Pantone Matching System, reflecting a move toward maximalism and emotional expression through bold hues like citrus yellows and mystical purples. 

Within the paint industry, green tones have emerged as a primary trend for 2027. Sherwin-Williams has selected ‘Aipo’, a soft, luminous green with yellowish nuances, to promote balance. AkzoNobel’s ColourFutures study has chosen ‘Pedra Natural’, a grayish-green intended to create well-being, while Lukscolor has identified ‘Redon’ as a key shade for the upcoming year.
