Animal welfare organizations in Ecuador and the United States have reported successful pet adoption initiatives. In Ecuador, Mundo Mágico de la Mascota facilitated the adoption of 219 pets through nationwide adoption days. In the United States, the organization Best Friends held ‘Adventure Buddies Day’ in Los Angeles, resulting in 25 dog adoptions and 14 foster placements.

In contrast, pet adoptions in Spain have reached their lowest levels since the pandemic. According to a study by Fundación Affinity, only 120,000 animals were adopted out of 285,000 available in shelters, representing a 42% adoption rate. Dog adoptions fell by 18% and cat adoptions declined by 14% compared to 2024. This decline has led to longer shelter stays, with adult and senior animals spending an average of over one year in care.
