Globoplay has announced the production of ‘Paraíso Perdido’, a 40-chapter original soap opera inspired by the works of Nelson Rodrigues. Set in Rio de Janeiro, the series is scheduled to begin filming in September 2026 with a planned premiere in 2027.

The plot centers on Werneck, a powerful transport tycoon portrayed by Alexandre Nero, and his complex relationships with characters including Silene, played by Clara Moneke, and his daughter Maria Cecília, played by Alanis Guillen. 

Subsequent updates confirmed that influencer Juliano Floss will make his acting debut as Heitor Júnior, a character seeking revenge against his father, Werneck. This casting has sparked debate within the Brazilian acting community. Actor Bruno Fagundes criticized the move on social media, arguing that popularity and charisma do not substitute for the technical training and experience required to convey complex dramatic layers, expressing concern that professional actors might lose opportunities to influencers.

Director Sérgio Goldenberg defended the decision, stating that Floss performed well during the selection process and possesses immediate chemistry with the role. Goldenberg noted that the choice was made by a group that analyzed candidate tests and cited historical precedents of directors using non-actors to justify the practice. The controversy has also drawn attention from the Rio de Janeiro Union of Artists and Technicians (Sated-RJ), which has advocated for more opportunities for trained professionals.
