Sources: 8. Developments: 2. Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha has faced scrutiny following a 3-1 defeat against Mali in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The 40-year-old veteran, who was previously nominated for the Lev Yashin Trophy, committed a critical error in the 51st minute when an attempt to control the ball with his chest resulted in a poor rebound, allowing Mali’s Nene Dorgeles to score into an empty net. Recent reports indicate Vozinha’s form has been inconsistent. While he delivered impressive performances against Spain, Uruguay, and Argentina during the 2026 World Cup, his recent outings have seen lapses in concentration. Following his recent transfer to the Chilean club Colo-Colo, he reportedly committed a similar mistake during a league match against Deportes Concepción. Earlier reports noted that Vozinha was among several international goalkeepers, including Uruguay’s Santiago Mele, facing criticism for errors during recent fixtures. While Mele’s errors occurred during a friendly against Japan, Vozinha’s mistake specifically impacted Cape Verde’s efforts to maintain momentum following their recent World Cup campaign. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: Vozinha commits decisive error in Cape Verde loss to Mali Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, a 2026 World Cup standout and Ballon d'Or nominee, committed a costly error in a 3-1 loss to Mali during Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/vozinha-error-leads-to-cape-verde-defeat-against-mali ### 2026-09-24: Goalkeepers Vozinha and Santiago Mele face scrutiny after international errors Goalkeepers Vozinha of Cape Verde and Santiago Mele of Uruguay faced criticism following errors in recent international matches against Mali and Japan, respectively. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/goalkeepers-vozinha-and-santiago-mele-face-scrutiny-after-international-errors --- Cite as: Goalkeeper errors in international football.
