In the Locuto community of the El Carmen annex, local goat farmers have begun implementing artificial insemination to improve the genetic quality and productivity of their herds. 

This initiative, a collaboration between PRA Buenaventura and the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA) via its PROCAP program, aims to increase the commercial value of livestock by enhancing both meat and milk production. As part of the project, 30 local breeders received training and awareness sessions. The process involved technical and sanitary evaluations of 25 selected goats, including ultrasounds and veterinary checks. The insemination utilized certified Anglonubian breed semen from the El Chira Experimental Station, with initial results expected within approximately 30 days.
