Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have opened pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 exclusive title, God of War Laufey, scheduled for release on February 16, 2027. The game features Faye (Laufey), the wife of Kratos, as the protagonist and takes place in the Everywhen following the events of Ragnarök. As of October 2026, the God of War Laufey Collector Box has faced scrutiny. Critics have expressed dissatisfaction with the 20-centimeter statue, arguing it is too small for the price point, and have noted that the statue’s light-up feature requires a permanent USB connection that may detract from its aesthetic. Additionally, the box has been criticized for lacking a physical game disc or a download code. The included 51-card Oracle deck has also inadvertently provided narrative clues, as players have used the cards to decode upcoming mythologies and characters, potentially spoiling elements of the game’s lineup. Regarding gameplay, the title is viewed as a potential turning point for the franchise. As the third entry to utilize the modern combat style established in the 2018 reboot and God of War Ragnarök, the game aims to evolve the series' identity. Initial footage suggests a shift toward greater player mobility, embracing an agile approach that incorporates aerial maneuvers, acrobatic movements, and magical abilities rather than relying solely on brute physical strength. Industry analysts suggest the game's success will depend on its ability to innovate upon the established combat foundation. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-19: God of War Laufey aims to evolve franchise combat mechanics God of War Laufey aims to evolve the franchise by introducing a new protagonist with highly mobile, magical, and acrobatic combat mechanics, building upon the foundation of the Norse-era games. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/god-of-war-laufey-aims-to-evolve-franchise-combat-mechanics ### 2026-10-15: God of War Laufey collector box faces criticism over design and spoilers God of War Laufey's collector box is facing criticism over the size and USB-powered lighting of its Faye statue, while its Oracle Deck inadvertently reveals new game mythologies. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/god-of-war-laufey-collector-box-faces-criticism-over-design-and-spoilers ### 2026-10-13: Sony unveils God of War Laufey Collector Box without the game Sony has announced a Collector Box for God of War Laufey that includes a Faye statue, an Oracle Deck, and an artbook, but notably excludes the base game, which must be purchased separately. 19 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/sony-reveals-god-of-war-laufey-collectors-edition ### 2026-09-30: God of War Laufey pre-orders surge on PlayStation Store Pre-orders for God of War Laufey have surged, reaching second place on PlayStation Store charts in 44 countries, trailing only GTA 6, despite the shift in protagonist from Kratos to Laufey. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/god-of-war-laufey-pre-orders-surge-on-playstation-store ### 2026-09-30: God of War Laufey reveals new combat style and casting defense New details for God of War Laufey reveal a fast-paced, aerial combat style for Faye, while actor Vincent D’Onofrio defends lead Deborah Ann Woll against casting criticisms. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/god-of-war-laufey-reveals-new-combat-style-and-casting-defense ### 2026-09-28: God of War Laufey pre-orders open for February 2027 release Sony and Santa Monica Studio have opened pre-orders for God of War Laufey, arriving February 16, 2027, for PS5.
