Google is implementing new policies and programs regarding its advertising and email services in the United States. 

In August 2026, Google announced updates to its Ads policies requiring advertisers of government-issued documents to provide explicit authorization and link their domains to official government websites. Additionally, a pilot program will restrict sensitive account actions to corporate-domain email addresses to mitigate account hijacking and misleading advertisements.

This initiative allows verified US political committees, such as PACs and political parties, to bypass standard spam filters provided they maintain a spam rate below 0.3%. To participate, committees must send emails from verified domains. 

Google states the program is designed to connect users with desired content while maintaining user control, emphasizing that users will retain the ability to mark messages as spam, block specific senders, and unsubscribe from mailing lists. However, the program has faced criticism from some Democratic strategists who fear it creates a ‘V.I.P. lane’ that could increase political spam for users.
