Google has officially confirmed the return of its Android Dev Summit, scheduled for October 28–29 at the company’s Bay View campus in Mountain View, California, with an additional event in London. This marks the first time the summit has been held since 2022. During the announcement, the name ‘Android 18’ appeared within the event agenda, providing the first public mention of the upcoming operating system. While not a formal OS announcement, its inclusion in the programming signals a significant look into Google’s software roadmap. Early indications suggest the new version will include advanced graphical features such as mesh gradients and progressive blurs through Jetpack Compose, designed to provide sophisticated visual effects without compromising battery life or frame rates. The summit is expected to focus on four main areas: AI experiences, Android XR (Extended Reality), app foundations, and development tools. Key technological developments include the ‘Android Context Engine’ using Gemini AI agents to orchestrate app interactions, as well as the integration of Gemini Nano to enhance on-device AI performance and power efficiency. The event will also explore the expansion of the Android ecosystem into smart glasses and spatial computing, including the development of audio-first experiences for intelligent eyewear. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-25: Google confirms Android 18 details via Dev Summit program Google has confirmed Android 18 will feature advanced graphical tools like mesh gradients and progressive blurs, optimized to maintain battery efficiency and performance. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/google-confirms-android-18-details-via-dev-summit-program ### 2026-09-27: Google references Android 18 in upcoming Dev Summit agenda Google has officially referenced Android 18 in the agenda for the upcoming Android Dev Summit this October, teasing powerful new graphical features like mesh gradients and progressive blurs. 19 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/google-announces-android-dev-summit-and-previews-android-18 ### 2026-09-25: Google Android Dev Summit to feature early mention of Android 18 Google’s upcoming Android Dev Summit in Mountain View and London features an unexpected first mention of Android 18, highlighting new graphics features, AI integration, and Android XR developments. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/google-announces-android-dev-summit-with-android-18-graphics-tease --- Cite as: Google Android Dev Summit and Android 18 preview.
