Offline maps allow users to maintain access to basic GPS positioning, step-by-step driving directions, and route filters such as avoiding highways or tolls. Users can also search for local services like addresses and operating hours. However, offline mode lacks real-time data, meaning users do not receive live traffic updates, congestion alerts, or automatic rerouting. Travel time estimates in this mode are based on standard free-flow conditions rather than current traffic. The application uses specific icons to convey information. A circle icon with a number indicates routes with toll fees, though toll cost estimates may not reflect recent price changes if used offline. Other interface icons include purple cameras for points of interest, orange cameras for speed camera locations, and a camera icon within the search bar for the Lens feature. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-08: Google Maps features: offline navigation and icon meanings Google Maps provides offline navigation with basic routing and local info, though it lacks real-time traffic data.
