The data suggests an acceleration of declining governance quality since 2021, particularly in the sectors of rights, security, gender equality, and participation. Mozambique was noted as the only country among seven identified with intensifying deterioration that did not undergo a coup d’état during the review period. In Zambia, the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index ranks the nation 121st globally in fundamental rights and 25th among 34 Sub-Saharan African countries.
