Grab Holdings Limited is seeking regulatory approval for a $600 million cash acquisition of foodpanda’s Taiwan operations. While the company reported increased second-quarter revenue and raised its full-year guidance, CEO Anthony Tan sold 400,000 Class A shares on August 10 under a pre-arranged trading plan.

The acquisition has faced scrutiny from the Taiwan Fair Trade Commission, which extended its review period to October 27 to evaluate market concentration. This regulatory delay coincided with protests from over 500 demonstrators, including labor unions and legal experts, who gathered at the commission to oppose the merger.

Protesters argue the deal could create a market monopoly. Specifically, the National Food Delivery Industry Union highlighted an equity link between Uber and Grab, suggesting that Uber’s approximately 13% stake in Grab creates a “pseudo-competition” that may reduce bargaining power for workers and merchants and harm consumer pricing.
