The Grande ABC region in Brazil is pursuing various regional development initiatives through coordination with the federal government.

In late August 2026, the Consórcio Intermunicipal Grande ABC began discussions to implement the country’s first regional Casa da Mulher Brasileira. This project aims to provide integrated social, psychological, and legal support, alongside temporary housing and financial training, for women experiencing violence. The city of Santo André proposed a site in the Paraíso neighborhood, which received positive feedback during a technical inspection by National Secretary Estela Bezerra.

By late September 2026, regional efforts expanded to include industrial and professional development. Mayors met with the Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Marcio Elias Rosa, to discuss modernizing the local industrial park—spanning automotive, petrochemical, and bioeconomy sectors. The Grande ABC Development Agency requested federal assistance for a regional professional qualification plan and a university extension program through the Federal University of ABC (UFABC) to address technological shifts like artificial intelligence and digitalization.
