In 2026, the program operates as a pilot for livestock holdings with more than 900 animals, targeting between 500,000 and 700,000 animals. For these holdings, electronic marking is a prerequisite for eligibility for subsidies for animals older than six months. The process requires an electronic order and must be performed by an authorized veterinarian, with costs borne by the farmers.

The Ministry of Rural Development and Food has clarified that for the 2026 Unified Application for Aid, the requirement applies to all eligible animals within these pilot holdings rather than just a portion of the flock. To qualify for subsidies, animals must possess a Type 1 ear tag, an electronic ruminal bolus with a matching unique identification code, and be registered in the Digital Traceability Database for Goats and Sheep. Simply ordering the boluses is insufficient; both installation and registration are mandatory for eligibility.

The Ministry has confirmed that following this pilot phase, the measure will become mandatory for all sheep and goat livestock holdings across the country starting in 2027.
