In late July 2026, the Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food announced a €242 million rural-road programme under Intervention P3-73-1.2. The initiative, which integrates 446 projects across 141 municipalities in 13 regions, was expanded from an original €65 million call following a resource over-commitment approved by Minister Margaritis Schoinas. Overseen by General Secretary Argyro Zerba, the programme aims to improve farm access, reduce travel costs, enhance safety, and increase network resilience against extreme weather.

Regional rollouts began shortly after the announcement. The municipal council of Kastoria in Western Macedonia secured €2.86 million in co-financing from the Greek state and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development to upgrade approximately 17 km of routes, benefiting over 450 farms in the Agia Triada area. 

On 3 August 2026, the Epirus region was allocated nearly €19 million for 39 rural-road projects across four prefectures. This allocation included €296,000 for the urgent restoration of a 19-km stretch of provincial road between Rodavgi and Platanousa, which suffered damage from severe winter flooding in the Arta and Ioannina units.
