Sources: 6. Developments: 2. The Greek Gamma Ethniki football league is preparing for its 2026-2027 season. The league consists of 113 teams organized into 10 geographical groups to mitigate travel expenses. Vasilis Sideris, President of the Hellenic Football Federation’s Competitions Committee, noted the league serves as a “vital link between amateur and professional football.” New regulations for the upcoming season mandate youth development by requiring teams to include two specific young players in their starting lineups: one born in 2007 or later and another born in 2008 or later, both eligible for Greek national teams. Regional interest is high, particularly in Central Greece where local derbies are expected. Individual clubs, such as AE Lefkimmi, have announced roster renewals featuring ambitious young players as they prepare for competition. The 2026-27 season is scheduled to commence on the weekend of September 26-27. The competition follows a multi-phase structure including initial group stages, play-offs for the top six teams in each group, and promotion play-offs. Four teams will earn promotion to Super League 2, while 23 teams face relegation to local leagues. Sideris has further emphasized the league's role as a “developmental school for young talent.” ## Timeline ### 2026-09-24: Gamma Ethniki 2026-27 season begins with 113 teams The 2026-27 Gamma Ethniki season begins September 26-27 in Greece, featuring 113 teams competing for four promotion spots to Super League 2 and implementing new youth player requirements. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/greek-gamma-ethniki-football-league-prepares-for-2026-2027-season ### 2026-09-20: Gamma Ethniki football season begins in Central Greece The Gamma Ethniki football season begins in Greece, with significant focus on the 5th group in Central Greece and upcoming local derbies. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/gamma-ethniki-football-season-begins-in-central-greece --- Cite as: Greek Gamma Ethniki football season preparations.
