Greek authorities launched an investigation into an arson incident in the pine forests of Ano Vrilissia, near Penteli, after a video surfaced showing three minors setting fire to dense vegetation. The incident occurred during a period of high fire risk in the Attica region and was reportedly motivated by a social media “challenge.”

Footage of the incident, which was broadcast by ANT1, was captured by a passing driver and shows the minors lighting a fire in a pine-covered area before attempting to contain the flames. Following a report to the 112 emergency line, the Fire Service and the Arson Crimes Directorate (DAEE) identified the individuals as 13-year-old minors.

While the children have reportedly apologized for their actions, legal proceedings for attempted arson are being initiated against them. Additionally, authorities are investigating their parents for the offense of neglect of supervision; the parents have stated they were “completely unaware” of the social media challenge.
