In mid-October, the coalition criticized the government’s migration management, alleging a lack of comprehensive planning over the last seven years. ELAS claimed the administration has prioritized rhetoric over substantive solutions for migrant reception and integration, citing reports of migrants in Crete sleeping under trucks due to inadequate infrastructure. The party also accused the government of linking migration to criminality to deflect from policy failures. By late October, the coalition shifted its focus to national defense. ELAS argued that defense spending should not be used for partisan or electoral promotion. The party requested transparency from the Minister of National Defense regarding armament programs from the last fifteen years, including procurement costs, ongoing contracts, and maintenance expenses. Additionally, ELAS sought data on military personnel, specifically regarding staff shortages, resignation rates, and working conditions. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-30: Greek Left Coalition calls for national defense to remain non-partisan The Greek Left Coalition (ELAS) demands that national defense be treated as a non-partisan issue and calls for transparency regarding armament programs and military personnel conditions. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/greek-left-coalition-calls-for-national-defense-to-remain-non-partisan ### 2026-10-16: Greek Left Coalition criticizes government migration policy The Greek Left Coalition (ELAS) has criticized the government for lacking a migration plan and using xenophobic rhetoric instead of providing adequate infrastructure and integration solutions. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/greek-left-coalition-criticizes-government-migration-policy --- Cite as: Greek Left Coalition political critiques.
