Throughout late August and early September 2026, regional and municipal councils across Greece continued to convene to manage local governance, infrastructure, and economic matters.

In the South Aegean, the Regional Council scheduled discussions regarding the provision of nine residences in Kos to support medical staff at the Kos General Hospital, alongside potential financial incentives for healthcare personnel. In Epirus, regional debates focused on major road axes, specifically the Igoumenitsa–Preveza and Preveza–Ionia routes, as well as the environmental impact of two proposed data centers in Ioannina. Other municipalities, including Messolonghi, Kalamaria, Veria, Amyntaio, and Kontariotissa, addressed local budgets, urban planning, and municipal services such as waste management and school cleaning staff recruitment.

In Chania, administrative activities have intensified following restructuring announced by Mayor Panagiotis Simanidrakis. The Municipal Council is scheduled to convene on September 9, 2026, to address 16 agenda items, including the amendment of the 2026 technical program, the reshaping of the financial budget, and the approval of judicial expenses. The session will also consider requests for the free use of municipal spaces—such as the former Markopoulou camp, various gymnasiums, and the Varypetra football field—as well as the naming of streets and squares and compensation for property demolitions in Panos Souda and Kato Souda.

Additionally, Mayor Simanidrakis held a working meeting with the Architects Association of Chania Prefecture to discuss large-scale technical and urban planning issues. The Mayor emphasized the necessity of institutional dialogue and cooperation with professional bodies to facilitate the design of public spaces and the city’s upcoming development period.
