The Greek government has implemented a new regulatory framework for professional sellers and producers operating in open-air markets within the Attica region.

Initial measures established nine distinct activity categories for sellers, ranging from food and consumables to clothing and a new dedicated pet-related category. This framework, which includes a six-month transition period, was welcomed by the Panhellenic Federation of Market Sellers (POSPLA) as a means to improve market organization and oversight.

Subsequent regulations, formalized through Ministerial Decision 66390 published in the Government Gazette, expanded these requirements by focusing on transparency and consumer information. New rules mandate specific signage for stalls: producers must display a permanent sign, measuring at least 1 meter by 0.40 meters, identifying themselves as ‘PRODUCER’ along with their name, license, OPSAA registration number, and farm location. Professional sellers must display a sign stating ‘PROFESSIONAL’ including their name, license, and OPSAA registration.

Under these updated regulations, producers are permitted to modify their product offerings provided they meet specific criteria. They must have held their license for at least two years and waited at least one year since their last similar request. Furthermore, they must provide production evidence, such as declarations to the Hellenic Agricultural Organization (OSEDE), and update their tax records with the appropriate activity code.
