In Corfu, Metropolitan Nektarios presided over a Divine Liturgy at the Holy Temple of Saint Sophia to honor the Holy Martyrs Sophia and her daughters, emphasizing the endurance of early Christians. In Anchorage, Alaska, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America led Great Vespers at the Holy Temple of the Transfiguration of the Savior, the northernmost parish of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. This remote community, which includes Greek, Romanian, and Ukrainian members, prepared for a historic consecration. Following the initial services, Archbishop Elpidophoros officially consecrated the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior. This event marked the first episcopal visit to the community in nearly fifty years. During the ceremonies, the Archbishop stated that the consecration represents “the beginning of a new era for the community rather than the conclusion of an effort.” Additionally, Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco noted the parish's diversity, and the Archbishop bestowed the title of Archpriest upon the parish priest, Father Vasilios Hillhouse. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-19: Archbishop Elpidophoros consecrates Greek Orthodox church in Alaska Archbishop Elpidophoros visited Anchorage, Alaska, to consecrate the Transfiguration of the Savior, the state's only Greek Orthodox parish, marking the first such visit in nearly 50 years. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/archbishop-elpidophoros-consecrates-greek-orthodox-church-in-alaska ### 2026-09-17: Orthodox religious leaders preside over services in Greece and Alaska Orthodox religious leaders held significant services in Corfu, Greece, and Anchorage, Alaska, marking a feast day in Corfu and the upcoming consecration of a unique Alaskan parish. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/orthodox-religious-leaders-preside-over-services-in-greece-and-alaska --- Cite as: Greek Orthodox services and consecration in Alaska.
