In early July 2026, the Public Employment Service (ΔΥΠΑ) launched a scheme to recruit 1,000 unemployed university and technical-education graduates on twelve-month full-time contracts, paying €1,250 and €1,200 per month respectively. Eligibility required registration in the Digital Unemployed Register, an Individual Action Plan, and a points-based assessment.

On 20 July, a parallel programme for job-seekers aged 55 and over was announced, offering 24-month contracts with full social insurance and employer subsidies, aimed at the long-term unemployed. The Ergani mobile app was also introduced for short-term contracts, initially covering 86 subsidised jobs in Serres.

An expansion announced on 5 August added 8,000 fully-subsidised positions for workers aged 55-74, raising the total 55+ quota to 43,000 jobs nationwide. Applications opened at 11:00 on 5 August as scheduled. The subsidy covers up to 75% of wages and social-security contributions, capped at €750 per month, for an initial 12-month contract that can be extended for another year. The new round is funded with €144 million, bringing the programme’s overall cost above €660 million. Eligible employers include municipalities, regions, public-law entities, decentralized administrations and other public-sector bodies that regularly conduct economic activity.

Regarding the graduate programme, applications must be submitted exclusively online by 23:59 on Tuesday, 18 August. The selection process for these 1,000 positions targets individuals aged 25 to 54 and utilizes criteria such as continuous unemployment duration, number of minor children, presence of children with disabilities, professional experience, certified training, postgraduate degrees, and an individual structured interview.
