Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni has been conducting regional visits to highlight and develop Greece’s tourism sectors.

In mid-August, the Minister visited Matala in southern Crete to emphasize the area’s historical and cultural significance, ranging from Minoan and Roman eras to its 1960s hippie culture. The Ministry of Tourism is supporting the Municipality of Phaistos in promoting the region through initiatives such as the Matala Beach Festival.

Following this, the Minister met with Ionian Islands Regional Governor Giannis Trepeklis in Corfu to discuss a new strategy for sustainable development. This plan focuses on promoting smaller, peripheral locations like the Diapontia Islands and Kastos to offer authentic experiences. The discussions also addressed the needs of island residents, with the Minister announcing the creation of an Intergovernmental Committee for Insularity to manage port infrastructure, connectivity, and funding.
