Grindr has agreed to a £26 million settlement to resolve a UK class action lawsuit involving approximately 12,000 users. The legal action, initiated by the law firm Austen Hays, alleged that the dating platform shared highly sensitive personal information without proper consent. This data included users’ HIV status, HIV test dates, sexual orientation, GPS locations, and use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with third-party advertising and analytics firms such as Localytics and Apptimize.

Grindr stated that the disputed practices were “historical data practices before 2020,” a period when the platform was under the ownership of the Chinese conglomerate Beijing Kunlun Tech. While the company noted the “distress and loss of trust” experienced by users, the settlement does not constitute an admission of liability or a finding of wrongdoing. The company has since undergone management changes and ownership transitions, including a sale to San Vicente Acquisition in 2020.

The settlement will be paid in two £13 million installments, with the first due by December 31, 2026, and the second by March 31, 2027. If distributed equally, claimants could receive an average of approximately £2,167, though final amounts may vary based on legal and insurance costs.
