Guatemala has initiated selection processes for leadership roles in two key oversight institutions.

The Superintendencia de Competencia (SiCom) has opened a search for a new Superintendent following the resignation of Jorge Miguel Castro. Tomás Xocoy Acán is serving as acting superintendent. The incoming leader will manage a term through October 2031 and oversee the hiring of approximately 15 specialized staff members to reach full operational capacity by December 2026.

Simultaneously, a nomination commission has begun the process to select the Comptroller General of Accounts (CGC) for the 2026-2030 term. Presided over by Miquel Cortés, the 27-member commission is tasked with establishing a shortlist of six candidates to be presented to the Congress of the Republic by September 22.
