In mid-September 2026, a series of shootings across New York City, primarily in the Bronx and Queens, resulted in one death and five injuries. These incidents, which included a fatal shooting in Hunts Point and a drive-by shooting near Yankee Stadium, contributed to a significant spike in gun crime. Authorities noted that between September 7 and September 13, the city recorded 22 shootings with 28 victims, a figure that more than doubled compared to the previous year.

By October, violence continued in the Bronx, where a daylight shooting in the Melrose section wounded a 32-year-old man and a 1-year-old girl. The infant sustained minor injuries from flying glass after a bullet struck a parked vehicle. Police indicated that neither victim appeared to be the intended target of the shooter.
