Sources: 3. Developments: 2. Guyana authorities have intensified enforcement actions against illegal mining operations across multiple regions. In the Potaro mining district of Region Eight, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) and the Guyana Police Force conducted sweeps that resulted in the arrest of several non-nationals, including Venezuelan citizens. These operations led to the seizure of heavy machinery such as excavators, trucks, dredges, and generators concealed in the jungle. The Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed that apprehended non-nationals are being deported under a zero-tolerance policy. Following these actions, a subsequent crackdown occurred on September 17, 2026, along the Puruni River in Region Seven. Targeting activities within a protected river buffer zone, authorities seized gold and two water dredges. Three individuals were taken into custody as investigations continue. These combined efforts represent an ongoing strategy by the Ministry of Natural Resources to curb unauthorized mining and ensure compliance with national environmental and mining laws. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-20: Guyana authorities seize gold and dredges in Puruni River mining crackdown Guyana authorities seized two water dredges and gold during a crackdown on illegal mining in the Puruni River buffer zone, resulting in three arrests. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/guyana-authorities-seize-gold-and-dredges-in-puruni-river-mining-crackdown ### 2026-09-13: Guyana authorities arrest four more foreigners in illegal mining crackdown Four more non-nationals have been arrested and various mining machines seized as authorities expand their crackdown on illegal mining operations in Guyana's Potaro mining district. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/guyana-authorities-arrest-four-more-foreigners-in-illegal-mining-crackdown --- Cite as: Guyana illegal mining enforcement operations.
