Following the completion of a $17 million National Quality Infrastructure project supported by the Inter-American Development Bank, the bureau has enhanced its testing, measurement, and certification capabilities. This initiative addressed gaps in laboratory facilities, including new spaces for calibrating weights, volumes, thermometers, time, and frequency, as well as improved inspection capacity for high-capacity scales. Building on these technical improvements, the GNBS is now focusing on industry-specific quality and safety standards. In the food service sector, the bureau is collaborating with the Catering and Restaurant Association of Guyana to implement training and develop new standards. Additionally, the GNBS is promoting the GCP 18 National Standard, a Code of Practice for tour operators and guides, to regulate professional conduct, insurance, and emergency safety protocols within the tourism industry. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-30: Guyana National Bureau of Standards promotes industry quality and safety The Guyana National Bureau of Standards is collaborating with industry associations and promoting national standards to improve safety and professionalism in the food service and tourism sectors. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/guyana-national-bureau-of-standards-promotes-industry-quality-and-safety ### 2026-10-26: Guyana completes $17 million National Quality Infrastructure project Guyana has completed a $17 million NQI project supported by the IDB to enhance the GNBS's testing and certification capacity for local businesses. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/guyana-completes-17-million-national-quality-infrastructure-project --- Cite as: Guyana National Bureau of Standards development.
